A
native of Chattanooga, TN, Dr. Hayes attended Auburn University where
she graduated with honors. She then attended
the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham. Dr. Hayes
moved to Nashville in 1991 and completed her Internal Medicine
Internship and Residency at the University of Tennessee, Baptist
Hospital. Her three-year Fellowship in Endocrinology,
Diabetes and Metabolism was completed at Vanderbilt University where
she actively participated in research
projects related to diabetes mellitus, weight regulation, and exercise.
She
entered solo practice in 1997.
Dr. Hayes developed Type 1 diabetes at the
age of 15 and has worn an external insulin pump for most of this time. She
feels a strong commitment to diabetes treatment, the disorder with which she
has had such personal and professional experience. She believes in
"tight" glycemic control and stresses individual diabetes
self-management guided by our diabetes treatment team. She encourages a
comprehensive approach to both diabetes and weight control with an emphasis on
patient education. Focus is also placed on nutrition therapy, exercise therapy,
behavior modification and preventive medicine.
Dr. Hayes is a member of the American
Diabetes Association and The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. She
actively consults with numerous pharmaceutical companies and provides education
to other physicians regarding the complexities of diabetes care, and treatment
of other endocrine disorders. She
travels throughout the Southeast lecturing and leading seminars and
conferences.
In the little free time that she has, Dr.
Hayes very much enjoys exercise and keeping fit. She has completed one full marathon, one half marathon and concentrates on running and weight training as part of her on-going exercise routine. She enjoys travel to "most any beach" and loves mountains and snow skiing as well. Dr. Hayes is totally dedicated to her career and the various opportunities it affords her.
Kay Williams, APRN-BC
Nurse Practitioner
Kay Williams is a nurse practitioner at HayesEndocrine & DiabetesCenter. She
has over 20 years of nursing experience. Her interest in diabetes began 15
years ago when her husband was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She has a
commitment to help people with diabetes to understand and manage their chronic
disease. Her personal goal is to stay informed of the newest advances in the
treatment of diabetes.
As a graduate of BelmontUniversity, Kay
completed her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Nursing with afocus on Family Nurse Practitioner. Upon
graduation she joined the faculty of BelmontUniversity as
adjunct professor in the bachelor of nursing program. In 2002 she successfully
completed the National Institute of Pharmacist Care Outcome accredited Diabetes
Care Certificate Program and in 2003 Therapeutic Footwear Training.
Additionally, she accomplished the Advanced Practice in Diabetes Care Finishing
Course, which provides her with the tools and resources to develop and maintain
the dynamic skills necessary to improve the care of patients with diabetes.
She and her husband own and operate the DiabetesCareCenter
located within a pharmacy setting. She is a member of the American Diabetes
Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, American Nurses
Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, and Middle Tennessee Advanced
Practice Nurses. Also, Kay volunteers with the juvenile Foundation and the
Nashville American Diabetes Association.
Brett Kinzig, APRN-BC Nurse Practitioner
Brett Kinzig is a nurse practitioner at HayesEndocrine & DiabetesCenter.
After graduating from MiddleTennesseeStateUniversity,
he attended graduate school at VanderbiltUniversity. At Vanderbilt, he
completed training as an Advanced Practice Nurse and was subsequently certified
as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. His educational training centered on primary
care with a subspecialty focus in the management of cardiovascular diseases,
including the management of Diabetes Mellitus. Previously, Mr. Kinzig worked as
a Registered Nurse on Vanderbilt’s telemetry units and in the Cardiovascular
Intensive Care Unit.
Mr. Kinzig’s major professional interests concern the
management of Diabetes Mellitus and other cardiovascular risk factors such as
hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity. He strongly believes in the power and
efficacy of preventative care and patient education in the successful
management of these conditions. In addition, he is a certified pump trainer and
a member of the American Diabetes Association, Tennessee Nurses Association and
Middle Tennessee Advanced Practice Nurses.
Blake Salmony, APRN-BC
Nurse Practitioner
Blake Salmony is the
nurse practitioner working in the Hendersonville branch of Hayes Endocrine
& Diabetes Center. After graduating from Goucher College in Baltimore, he
attended graduate school at Vanderbilt University. There, he completed training
as an Advanced Practice Nurse and was subsequently certified as an Adult Nurse
Practitioner. His training is centered on primary care with a subspecialty
focus in the management of cardiovascular diseases, including the management of
diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity.
Morgan Crosson, BS
Program Director of The Nashville Solution
Morgan received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Nutrition from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. During her time working in a fitness facility in college, Morgan realized her passion for weight loss education. She is most pleased by guiding patients towards intensive weight loss and lifestyle and behavior change.
Morgan has completed training to be a Health Fitness Specialist and is excited to open the TNS gym for private coaching and instruction.
In addition to being a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, she is also currently in training to be a Health and Wellness Coach through their WellCoaches program.
